One day, while boating on the lake, a giant golden turtle suddenly appeared in the water and asked the emperor to return the magical sword to its divine owner. Realising that the sword belonged to the heavens, Lê Lợi returned it to the turtle, who then disappeared beneath the lake’s surface.
From that moment, the lake became known as “Hoàn Kiếm,” commemorating the return of the sacred weapon and symbolising peace after years of war.
